چکیده

The main bottleneck of the research in metric space searching is the so-called curse of dimensionality, which makes the task of searching some metric spaces intrinsically diicult, whatever algorithm is used. A recent trend to break this bottleneck resorts to probabilistic algorithms , where it has been shown that one can nd 99% of the elements at a fraction of the cost of the exact algorithm. These algorithms are welcome in most applications because resorting to metric space searching already involves a fuzziness in the retrieval requirements. In this paper we push further in this direction by developing probabilistic algorithms on data structures whose exact versions are the best for high dimensions. As a result, we obtain probabilistic algorithms that are better than the previous ones. We also give new insights on the problem and propose a novel view based on time-bounded searching.

Hierarchical Image Feature Extraction by an Irregular Pyramid of Polygonal Partitions

We present an algorithmic framework for hierarchical image segmentation and feature extraction. We build a successive fine-to-coarse hierarchy of irregular polygonal partitions of the original image. This multiscale hierarchy forms the basis for object-oriented image analysis. The framework incorporates the Gestalt principles of visual perception, such as proximity and closure, and exploits spe...

Compact and Efficient Permutations for Proximity Searching

Proximity searching consists in retrieving the most similar objects to a given query. This kind of searching is a basic tool in many fields of artificial intelligence, because it can be used as a search engine to solve problems like kNN searching. A common technique to solve proximity queries is to use an index. In this paper, we show a variant of the permutation based index, which, in his orig...

Proximity Point Properties for Admitting Center Maps

In this work we investigate a class of admitting center maps on a metric space. We state and prove some fixed point and best proximity point theorems for them. We obtain some results and relevant examples. In particular, we show that if $X$ is a reflexive Banach space with the Opial condition and $T:Crightarrow X$ is a continuous admiting center map, then $T$ has a fixed point in $X.$ Also, we ...

Analyzing the Performance of Allocation Strategies Based on Space-Filling Curves

Future exascale supercomputers will be composed of thousands of nodes. In those massive systems, the search for physically close nodes will become essential to deliver an optimal environment to execute parallel applications. Schedulers manage those resources, shared by many users and jobs, searching for partitions in which jobs will run. Significant effort has been devoted to develop allocation...
